My dog beside me at the wheel...
Over the weekend, I took Trip to the dog park for the first time. I had been promising to take him for weeks, but the weather has just been less than stellar. On Saturday the sun was shining and it was in the upper 40's, so we went. Before we left on our mini road trip, I sat down and had a little talk with Trip.
"Trip, there's a couple things I need to talk to you about before we go to the park." I act like he's my teenage son. "There will be dogs that don't like you, like Baby next door... but don't let them beat you up. Please don't pee on other dogs... that's probably why Baby doesn't like you. Run around and have fun, but no biting. When we are ready to leave, do not fight me to wipe your paws off or we won't come back. And absolutely NO HUNCHING!"
I'm pretty sure he then told me to shut up.
Much to my surprise, he did awesome. He even found a girlfriend; a cocker spaniel/retriever mix named Lady. They ran around together, begged for treats together and even basked in the sun for a breather together. It made my heart melt.
He slept the entire car ride home and was rewarded with a brand new bone for his good behaviour. I can't wait to have some more adventures at the dog park.
